Coincidentally, that’s the name of the course I have just attended. I met some great people and some very wise words were said to me.
One of the other Volunteers pointed out that before starting any new job you always have feelings of doubt about your ability to perform. He is right and I can now put that little worry to rest.
Somebody equally sage made me question the realism of being too energetic and too enthusiastic too early. So I am going to tone down my crusade to save the world - at least until I get there :p.
Harborne Hall is a haven in the middle of Suburban Birmingham. I spent a lot of time reading while everyone else went to the pub. I felt like a swotty schoolboy but it was worth it as I read almost a whole book about the history of the region I am visiting. I still had time to make some great friends.
I also got some good ideas for raising some more money for VSO so I am going to have a dabble at them. On the subject of fund-raising - THANK YOU for the £270 raised so far. Amazing stuff.
Harborne Hall.

Hi JB, well done in getting this far. It appears my donations flopped because of my poor excuse for a Credit Card. Soon as I get another sorted i’ll send across some cash.
In the mean time i’ve put a link on my website but I’m not sure how much help that will be but every little helps I guess.
Keep fighting the good fight, as they say.
Hey Matt,
Very kind of you. What’s your web url?
Jb
strikesandgutters.com
Do you have a logo of any kind aswell and I can stick that on there.
hmm not really. you could use the VSO one if you like but i’m not sure if it’s too big

A few questions from a blog idiot
How do you keep the spammers from eating you alive? i\’ve seen blogs with nothing but spam postings.
How do you keep some left wing extremist from posting racist or defamatory rhetoric? and if you cant stop them, what are you legally liabel when they do?
can viruses be posted to blogs?
Fundraiser.
WordPress has a spam filter but also some options which you can tighten to prevent spam. for example most spammers spam links and there is an option in wordpress to not allow links in comments, unless they are approved by me. this gets rid of almost all spam. the other occasional 1 or 2 i delete by hand.

oh and the offensive comments, if i had any I would just delete them. luckily the world is not so cruel, yet.
viruses cannot be posted in comments and wordpress does not allow files other than pictures to be hosted. in fact wordpress.com is probably one of the safest platforms going.
