Hi Jon

Great website, love catching up on what your doing. Mum gives me updates regularily, I know I would not swap places with you Jon but I do admire all you are doing there. Whenever I see Ghana on the TV I always think of you there. I'm getting together a goody bag for you but you will probably get home before it arrives!!!

Love

Hi Jon,

Just a quick note to let you know I've popped PB season 2 in the post for you; let me know when you get it. Or indeed, if you don't.

I've got a couple of other things lined up which I'll continue posting over the next fortnight or so.

Hopefully see you in July?

Take care,
Jay

I have just come across your blog and really love reading it. I stayed in Abor for 3 months - just left Nov 2006. I volunteered at 'In My fathers House' ( on the road to Afloa) I know exactly where you are, having visited the School with ?? Augustino and can really relate to your local stories. I also met the Father at your school. Pls give my regards. Maybe one day you could ride to IMFH and greet the men on the gate.. They should remember me .. if not ask for Gabriel. Have you found the fast internet cafe in Aflao (and the fresh chocolate.) There are 2 and both were good. Give away Akatsi... it drove me crazy !!!! Well enjoy the rest of your journey and a star(or 2) for me at the local spot. Ciao x Mama Jacqui

Good comments and blog. As one of those expats in town on 900+ multiples I can only agree with most of the points, even if there are three bigger supermarkets rather than one. The government gets more corrupt by the day, while mismanagement is utterly rife. In particular the power crisis is mostly government caused after they drained the Volta Lake to produce unpaid power for the aluminum smelter. Anyway that's my rant for the day. Cheers!

I disagree with your strong comments Yngvild. This is an honest, albeit early, impression of Ghana. Surely everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Jon is far from being an idiot, he is very intelligent and has written a very compelling account of his experiences - good and bad. This is after all targetted mainly at his CLOSE friends and family. So don't be so moany and Chill!

No offence, but you are kind of building up under all the prejudices that exists about Africa and how primitive everything is there. fine, u live in a remote village, but for god's sakes..:) there are MANY shopping malls in ghana, not all of them are in Accra, and Koala sure isnt the only place where they sell real toothpaste. so take a look around. many idiots will say: exactly. thats how africa is like. when they read some of your entries...:/
